ORGANISATION PROFILE

Community Development Society is a Non-Profit Organization Registered on 31st January 2013 under the Manipur Societies Registration Act, 1989, dedicated towards the upliftment and empowerment of the economically weaker sections of the society. Highly concerned about the poor economic situations of Manipur, a group of five-member youths took the initiative to address the age-old economic challenges facing the rural community of Manipur in the 21st Century.

The Organization aims to address the issues of low farmer incomes, inadequate social infrastructure development, women empowerment, unemployment, unsustainable economic & livelihood conditions, health & education as well as ecological sustainability.

The Organization is highly concerned about the deprivation of rural community from their potential aspirations due to economic and political setbacks. Till late, it has been observed that the issues of subsistence farming vis-à-vis the impact of climate change, unprotected environment, poorly-developed health infrastructure and rampant employment has resulted in widespread social catastrophe among the rural communities in Manipur, which has led to the necessity of handholding, capacity building, awareness and sensitization.

We are passionate and committed towards creating sustainable development among the rural communities through:

• Education, Health & Digital Literacy;
• Environmental Conservation & Renewable Energy;

MISSION

THE ORGANISATION MISSION is “to encourage and promote entrepreneurship and self-reliance in the society so as to wean away people from dependency syndrome by creating opportunities for rural areas and often weaker sections of the society in their respective lines of interests and capacitate them to build themselves up; create sensitivity towards the preservation and protection of the ecological, social and economic environment”

OBJECTIVES OF COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT SOCIETY

1. To uplift the socio-economic condition of the society through farm, non-farm, agriculture and its allied sectors.
2. To encourage and promote entrepreneurship in the society especially among the educated unemployed youths so as to wean away them from dependency syndrome and ensure that they stand on their own feet.
3. To sensitize and promote regeneration of natural resources and to promote biodiversity preservation and conservation.
4. To increase effective participation of Women in Community’s decision making processes and women empowerment.
5. To promote and establish community information centre and knowledge centre. Also, act as a data bank on environment, education, health & Sanitation, farm sectors, entrepreneurship and various government initiative (plan, programme and policy).
6. To improve education system, encourage, facilitate & engage in research projects/activities. And promote information technology and digital literacy.
7. To work for environmental and climate protection, encourage and promote the use of renewable energy rather than conventional energy.
8. To initiate improvement for better health centre facilities.
9. To initiate for improvement of health care facilities, education, system, technical education and other skill based activities
10. To collaborate with other societies/organizations/departments pursuing the objectives similar to those of the society.
11. To assist and work hand in hand with Government in times of natural calamities such as earthquake, droughts, outbreak of epidemic and endemic diseases, floods and famines etc. And also to undertake all such activities as are not specifically mentioned in the aims and objects listed above, but which promote these objectives.
