Community Development Society (CDS), with the support of the Azim Premji Foundation, is implementing a three-year livelihood development project from 1 November 2025 to 31 October 2028 in four villages of Churachandpur District, Manipur. The project is being implemented in S. Bualkot and K. Gamnom Villages under Tuibong Sub-Division, and Sumtukphai and Phaikhothang Khopi Villages under Saikot Sub-Division. The project aims to strengthen sustainable livelihood opportunities among rural and tribal communities through improved agricultural practices, piggery, capacity building, and vocational training. As part of the initiative, Farmer Interest Groups (FIGs) have been formed in all beneficiary villages and training programmes have been conducted. One Community Resource Person (CRP) has also been appointed from each village and provided with relevant training to support farmers and facilitate project activities at the community level.
The project focuses on Kitchen Gardening, Piggery, and Linking young eligible people with job linked vocational training on Hospitality-Food and Beverages. In the first year, 160 kitchen gardening units are being established, with the activities planned to continue in subsequent years. Kitchen gardening activities have been carried out in all four project villages under the supervision of CDS, with support from the Azim Premji Foundation. Beneficiaries have received seeds of pumpkin, long beans, Big Gold, and other vegetables, with support from KVK Churachandpur. Under the piggery component, 75 fattening units and 10 breeding units are planned in the first year, followed by 65 fattening units and 10 breeding units in the second year. Pig sheds have been constructed and beneficiaries have been provided with two piglets each to support income generation. In addition, awareness Program was conducted to Eligible young people for 20 young people each year will be linked to suitable vocational training programmes. Through these integrated livelihood interventions, the project seeks to improve household income, strengthen community capacity, promote self-reliance, and contribute to the sustainable socio-economic upliftment of tribal communities in the project villages.
